CWLC Partners with Children’s Aid Foundation

The Child Welfare League of Canada (CWLC) today announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership with the Children’s Aid Foundation (CAF). The announcement was made by CWLC Chief Executive Officer, Peter Dudding, at the International Foster Care Organization (IFCO) Conference in Victoria, BC.

“This enhanced partnership will give us the opportunity to work more closely with the Children’s Aid Foundation and build an even more robust relationship between our two organizations,” said Dudding. “We’re very excited to be entering into this new phase of our growing relationship.”

Children’s Aid Foundation President, Len Gamache, said “We at The Children’s Aid Foundation are greatly looking forward to this enhanced partnership with The Child Welfare League of Canada. Together, CWLC and CAF will have a stronger national presence which will enable us to take on joint fundraising and deliver larger programs and initiatives for vulnerable children and youth in Canada.”

One of those larger initiatives is CWLC’s foster care project, Every Child Matters, a project that is examining Canada’s foster parent recruitment and retention challenges. The project was conceptualized in collaboration with the Canadian Foster Family Association (CFFA) and was generously funded by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC). The results and findings from this first stage are feeding Phase 2, which will see CWLC working with the CAF and key child welfare stakeholders in every province and territory to craft a strong plan to improve foster parent recruitment, retention and training practices by collecting and disseminating information, tools and best practices across Canada.

“We all know that kids do best when they grow up in a family,” said Dudding. “Through Every Child Matters, CWLC and CAF will take the passion, commitment and input of Canadian foster parents to create a retention and recruitment plan that will provide permanency and a sense of identity for Canada’s vulnerable children and youth within the foster care system.”
